About Cathy

50 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I am a certified dog trainer (CCDT, CDKT) and whether I'm training, walking, or watching your dog, I believe in communicating with them through Positive Reinforcement (PR). I work 5 days a week, so your dog should be comfortable being home with my dog for about 8.5 hours those days.

While you're away, you can be sure your dog will be cared for like a member of my pet family (dog and 2 cats) and get daily exercise (we have great trails) and be happy in my care--your house or mine! I take my dog for a minimum of 4 walks/day. Indoors we play mind games (bring me a ball, martian--Buzz's favorite toy!--or bone, hide-n-seek the treat), tug, and do a little training daily.

My goal through PR Training, is to save dogs from being sent to shelters and help Rescues keep their new homes FOREVER! I volunteer with the Fairfax Animal Shelter and local Rescues.

We did this last minute and Cathy helped us out! (Not that you should do this!) Our original DogVacay sitter didn't work out, and I was left with the vet, who didn't tell me when they would close - so we would have to cancel our Christmas plans! Cathy had us come out and take a walk with her dog before hand, and said she would be happy to take my two dogs. She has training in dog training and handling, and she was great with our dogs. She sent us pics and videos telling us how they were doing, and they were doing great! She has a lovely dog friendly home and she walked the 3 times a day, and took great care of them altogether. I would not hesitate to recommend her, and I intend to use her in the future!
We leave our dog, Willie, with Cathy whenever we go out of town and she is available. She always enthusiastically welcomes him and we know she takes very special care of him. I would never hesitate leaving Willie with Cathy and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a special person to care for their pet. Cathy really is pawsome!!
We have left our dog, Willie, with Cathy ever since we discovered DogVacay and feel very fortunate to have found her to care for Willie. We know he's in the best hands and that Cathy treats him as her own; he loves seeing Cathy and her family each time and has become best pals with Cathy's dog, Buzz. We hope we can leave Willie with Cathy whenever we go away.
We couldn't ask for a better person to care for our puppy, Gracie. She really took the extra time and effort to make Gracie feel at home and secure, and to reassure us that she was doing well. She was very flexible about arrangements, schedules, and times. Cathy was able to give Gracie her medications without problems. She walked Gracie multiple times a day, and Gracie loved playing with her dog Buzz. We plan to have Cathy care for Gracie again!
I know Willie was well taken care of during his stay with Cathy and enjoyed playing with the family fog, Buzz. Cathy was very accommodating and was sure to know Willie's like, dislikes and routines. He came home today very tired only because he was included in the family's activities and the lively time he had with Buzz. Cathy emailed messages and pictures every day we were away which were much appreciated. I hope Cathy will be available to care for Willie in the future.
Cathy was wonderful with our German Shepard/Beagle mix Ziggy. She was quick to respond to my inquiry regarding her availability to watch him even though it was last minute. It was extremely hard to leave him because we had just adopted Ziggy not to long ago, but Cathy sent me a text later that evening assuring me that he was doing great and that they had even bonded over some treats. Throughout the duration of Ziggy's stay she sent text updates and pictures which put me at ease. I would highly recommend Cathy for dog sitting; she does a fantastic job.
Wow! Jimbo absolutely loved Cathy and her pup Buzz. We had just adopted our little guy (a 5 year old beagle), and had a family wedding trip that was too far away for him to join us. We searched high and low to figure out what to do with him to make sure he was safe, healthy, and happy. We really didn't want to board him at a kennel, and then we found Cathy! We were lucky because I think we're a little outside her geographic area, but one look at Jimbo may have changed her mind. :) She brought over her own dog, Buzz, to have a meet and greet and make sure the two boys would get along (they did! Buzz is very well-behaved and Jimbo is pretty easy with other dogs). We were grateful she took on the challenge.

We got daily updates, emails/photos, and even a video. I was so nervous the first day that he was going to have some bad behavior given he was a brand-new rescue, but she handled it beautifully. Letting him be himself but also going above and beyond and helping us with training him. He's perfected the indoor "sit" and "stay" and he just seems happier and more alert.

In the pics and stories, we saw he was cozy, happy, playful, and safe. We couldn't have asked for a better host/experience.

I would HIGHLY recommend Cathy as a DogVacay host- it was like leaving him with family!
