About Joule

42 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
I offer the kind of dog boarding services I would hope to have for my own dogs. I also teach dog training for all breeds. My personal specialty is retriever work for hunting and performance events. I've been a DogVacay Host since August 2012, almost since its inception earlier in 2012.

I have separate fenced yards and multiple indoor rooms for guests, each of which serve different purposes, depending on needs. I offer special packages for hunters, and hunter prep.

All my rates and policies, such as the cancellation policy, are customized, based upon individual circumstances. I offer discounts for multiple pets, multiple days and repeat clients.

Please see the Rate Info below. I also offer training for boarding clients.

Regular rate = $30/24-hours per dog

Rate for two dogs from the same owner discounted rate = $50/24-hours
Regular 1 week discount = 10% off
Regular 2 week discount = 15% off
Longer than 2 weeks discount: Ask
2nd booking discount = 25% off 1st night (3 night minimum)
3rd+ booking discount = 50% off 1st night (3 night minimum)

Up to 8 hours = $20
8 to 9 hours = $22
9 to 10 hours = $24
10 to 11 hours = $26
11 to 12 hours = $28
More than 12 hours = $30 (same as 24-hour rate)

OTHER RATE INFO: Please ASK ME about the range of options and associated prices for: Daycare, Checkups & Visits, Walking, Grooming, Bathing, Pick-ups/Drop-offs and Training. The DogVacay website does not enable me to list this info in detail.

I am willing to consider dogs of any age, from very young to very old, dogs on medication, and those with special needs. However, please note that special pricing may apply to these situations.

When I have boarded my own pets elsewhere in the past, it always has seemed the drop-off and pick-up times never quite mesh with my needs, particularly when I am coordinating with airport shuttle schedules. I offer the convenience of setting these times to suit YOUR needs, 24/7, including holidays. However, please recognize that I am just one human and do I need some sleep occasionally. So, I will work with you to set times that work for me, as well as you, to the maximum extent possible.

If my published rates don't work for you, please let me know, and I'll try to make a special plan just for you.

WEATHER NOTE: I am located at 2,000' elevation, which is significantly cooler than the valley in hot weather and cozy in the winter. My house has central A/C and heat, plus I have a woodstove and gas fireplace as backups during electrical outages. My yard is well-shaded with huge fir and pine trees. A popular option with many dogs during the day isn't either my house nor my yard -- it is my large wood deck. The dogs are free to choose where they wish to hang out, and can change their minds whenever they want, because I have a dog door.

MY VACCINATION POLICY: For the protection of your pet, mine, and my other guests, please note that I need CURRENT and COMPLETE PROOF (vet records) of all the vaccinations that I require not later than the day before boarding or day care; however, it is strongly recommended that you submit your dog's records asap so that there is ample time to resolve any potential issues. The easiest method for most of my clients is to take a photo of their dogs' vet records using their cell phones and then to text them to me. My cell number and address automatically are released when a Meet-n-Greet or Custom Quote is accepted via the DogVacay website or app. In an attempt to eliminate confusion, and help educate dog owners, I have prepared the following synopsis. This info is composed from multiple vets and based on risk factors local to Paradise, CA. Your vet's protocol may vary. Exceptions can be made for dogs who are elderly or have chronic conditions.
CORE VACCINATIONS FOR DOGS - All are required at Dognacular Joule's:
* Rabies - 3 yrs (after initial puppy set)
* Distemper - 3 yrs
* Hepatitus or Adenovirus (hepatitis & respiratory disease) - 3 yrs
* Parvo - 3 yrs
NON-CORE FOR DOGS - Also required at Dognacular Joule's:

* Bordetella - 1 yr (one cause of 'kennel cough')
Most effective when given 2 weeks prior to potential exposure.

* Leptospirosis (Lepto) - 1 yr
The initial Lepto vaccination requires a booster. The amount of time seems to vary by vet; so please ask your vet and plan accordingly. After the initial set, it only needs to be repeated annually.

* Parainfluenza - 1 yr (one cause of 'kennel cough')
* Canine Influenza (different from the Parainfluenza vaccine)
* Lyme (caused by Borrelia burgdorferi)
* Rattlesnake
* Corona

CATS: Yes, I offer boarding/care for cats as well as dogs -- my home or yours.

Our Coonhound Beau enjoyed a day of playing with Joule's pups!
Joule was very flexible and helpful with arranging our reservation.
We recently left our Josie with Joule for 3 nights. It was the third time we have left her and she seems excited to be there. Joule has a nice bond with her and we are grateful for the care she gets. Richard and Bette
