Hi! I'm a new DV host (but definitely NOT new with dog care) so appreciate your stopping by!
To save you time, I cater only to dogs 40# or less--the small and medium range. This is primarily because of compatibility with my dogs, and space, not because I don't love bigger breeds. I definitely do. (Pssst. Here is a not-so-secret secret: if it came down to dogs or humans? I would pick dogs).
My entire house is literally, for the dogs--every chair, the couch, the four beds, the yard--my bed! I have a doggie door. It's all geared to insuring the dogs are happy and comfortable (read spoiled).
I am a biologist, author, and freelance writer and after many years of commuting, including as a part-time college teacher, strongly prefer to work from home now. It is a peaceful and a bucolic place in my oaks. Besides doing freelance writing, I am also working on my third novel. What this means for you is I am dedicated to being at my home while caring for your dog.
I have been taking care of pets one way or another, my entire life. Dogs I have had throughout my life have all been adopted from shelters. As someone who has used Dog Vacay and sought care for my OWN dogs, I have a great sense for what dog owners are looking for. First of all, you are looking for someone that genuinely adores dogs. I do! Second, you are looking for someone conscientious when it comes to security and safety for your dog. Third, you want conscientious care. Your dog will get walked and plenty of love and attention. Fourth, intelligence and common sense in a host is a must, not to mention understanding your scheduling needs.
I've been there and I understand!
I do require a Meet and Greet beforehand, of course with your pup. I also require proof from your vet that your dog is current on all shots including bordatella. This has to be provided prior to any booking.
My dogs and I go everywhere together. They are used to traveling with me in the car. While I will try very hard to be home all the time, there may be times when I have to run into town where I get mail. I will ask if it's ok to take your dog in my car. When I go into town, I also couple it with taking my dogs for a walk or hike usually at a local park (with doggie bags!). Of course this is never in the summer or heat and whether I run into town or not depends on a lot of things--like the dogs themselves. It will be based on each individual dog and situation.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting our new four-pawed friends.
