I used this guy through DogVacay and I really regret it.
I usually use other sites and this time my regular dog sitters were unavailable. So I searched for someone new to sit my 2 dogs. I found Rich and he had so many good reviews so I gave him a chance.
We scheduled a meet & greet and he looked nice although he seems so anxious to kick us out of his appartment. But I though he might be in a rush so I didn't pay attention to this.
We reserved the dates and times and he confirmed he will be able to sit them during all time. On Dec 22 I dropped off my dogs with all their supplies and was supposed to pick them up on Dec 26 on 7 am per our agreement.
When I came to pick them up I texted Rich that we arrived to his building but we cannot go up because we needed a key. After 10 min he replied back:"OK. I have my neighbor Keith coming down now." First time I'm hearing about Keith but I thought he might helps him so we can come up. But then I received another text saying:"I stayed overnight for Christmas with relatives. He's right in the building." WHAT??? Who is Keith again? And why Rich wasn't with my dogs?
When Keith was out with my dogs we asked him where is Rich? And he told us he had a meeting. I asked Keith few times this question and he didn't know what to say and told me to talk to Rich. Kinda shady. I tried to call and text Rich so many times but did not respond!! On the day after I received text message from him: "How can I help? " I replied back:" Not sure why since yesterday morning you didn't respond to any of my calls or text messages. I booked you for Christmas and paid you so much money to stay with my dogs and you weren't there with them. You stayed overnight for Christmas in someplace else without letting me know about it in advance or any agreement from my side. You sent someone that I don't know to return me my dogs. I have no idea where my dogs were all these 4 days. I paid you to sit my dogs and I expect you to be responsible enough to watch them and not leave them alone or with someone else without my consent. I tried to call you few times to understand what happened but you didn't respond. Now there is nothing you can help me with." His response was disgraceful:" Sorry for the confusion I was here with dogs. That night I was with family and friends and decided to stay overnight and plan to get up early but instead asked my friend and neighbor (who is also a sitter on DogVacay!) if he could stop by to meet you so you could pick up the dogs without delay. Again I apologize. I've done the same for him in the past, but he let the owners know in advance. So probably in hindsight i should have stayed with the original plan to be here to early to meet you or asked you about a later pick-up time, but my experience has been when people get home from a long trip they're anxious to see their pets."
Honestly I don't know who and if someone was even sitting my dogs.
We put our dogs with someone we thought is responsible enough to let us know if he cannot sit them or if he had some emergency that he had to leave, but this is not the case. Please don't do it for your dogs!
Rich was great! This was our first Dogvacay experience and Rich helped us learn the ropes. He was very understanding of our first-timer concernes and went out of his way to send photos and updates. Rufus was happy to see us when we returned but not so much that I felt he was in want of anything while we were away. We will definitely use Rich again. Thank you so much!
Rich was accommodating with my last-minute schedule and took excellent care of my giant lab puppy. If you're in Atlanta and need a pet sitter, give him a call.
