I have been around dogs my entire life in a house full of dog lovers. My first pet, at 2 years old was a giant English Mastiff, and I have loved dogs ever since! I am very comfortable around them, and they around me.
My husband, myself and our baby live in a 2 bedroom apartment, with plenty of space to host a dog of any size. We are homeowners in a dog-friendly building, so there is no concern of a run-in with any unfriendly neighbors or landlords. We are also on the first floor with minimal stairs which will suit older dogs who may have joint trouble.
Our home is on a very quiet block in a dog friendly neighborhood. We are about a 10 minute walk from the largest dog park in Manhattan, and for those that are not fond of the dog run, there are plenty of paths for great on-leash walking in Ft. Tryon park, just a few blocks away. We also have a roof deck (with very secure fencing) so we can accommodate dogs who enjoy just relaxing outdoors for some fresh air in addition to daily walks.
I currently work from home in Entertainment Management, so your dog will never be left alone for long. It's a perfect set up for dogs who suffer from separation anxiety, those that need a higher-than-average number of walks throughout the day, and for the younger dogs who may not have their house-breaking skills up to par just yet.
I know how difficult it can be on both you and your pet when you have to leave him/her behind, and the peace of mind it will give you knowing your dog is in a safe and comfortable environment. I look forward to meeting your best friend!
