About Dawn

25 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Hi! I'm Dawn! I'm a stay-at-home mom with 4 amazing kids, a fantastic husband, 4 fabulous dogs, 1 awesome cat & a super cute hamster. I love animals & helping people so this is a perfect fit!! This is not work, it's a passion! I have worked as a Professional Dog Trainer several years ago helping families learn to communicate & better understand their furry family members. It is very important to me that I understand how you interact with your dog (i.e., what word do you use for "stay" or do you ask your dog to "sit" before opening the door to go outside?). This ensures continuity & helps to prevent confusion with your pet. I am a BSN, RN, with experience working on busy Medical/Surgical Units. When your furry family member is with me, rest assured they are in competent hands. My furry clients enjoy walks tailored to their age, energy level and fitness level along with plenty of stop & sniff time. Lots of love & belly rubs make my furry four-legged clients the happiest dogs around! Need me to pet sit while you enjoy some well deserved rest & relaxation? No worries, tell me what you need and allow me to give your pet the care they deserve & you expect. In the past, I worked as a veterinary technician for a small animal veterinary practice which included caring for exotic pets such as snakes, exotic birds, and reptiles. As a result, I am comfortable caring for your exotic pets! I also worked at a 24 Hr Emergency Animal Hospital. I triaged patients, cared for patients in ICU, and assisted with various procedures, surgeries, and care of patients. About 12 years ago I had a dog walking business in RI where I worked with 11 families for 3 years. During that time I also managed an equestrian business where I taught riding lessons, trained & sold ponies & boarded horses. I gave up my business to pursue my nursing career at age 35 with my first son 18 months old! Over the course of several years I rehabilitated 3 Siberian Huskies destined for euthanasia as a result of severe aggressive behavior. All 3 amazing huskies were placed with loving families. I volunteered for the RIASPCA and fostered a Golden Retriever & her 8 puppies. They lived with me until pups were ready for new home & all were adopted including mom! Our furry family members speak to us, all we need to do is know how to listen!
I do offer doggy daycare, however, since I am building my home here in Mansfield, MA, and it will not be finished until December 30, 2017, I offer daycare "outings". Presently, we are leasing a townhouse so it is not the ideal set up for in house daycare. Instead, I offer outings. These outings consist of me picking up your pooch at a designated time and spending the day going on walks, hiking in various locations such as Borderlands State Park, the Bass Pro Shops and the Cranberry Bog Nature Trail, Sharon Dog Park or other appropriate destinations. Trips to PetCo are not uncommon as well. If your pooch stays for the entire day, they accompany me picking up kids from elementary school which always includes about 1/2 of play time in grass soccer field with kids. The day is finished with me dropping off your fur baby at home at specified time. Once my house is finished, I will have a 3/4 acre fenced in area adjacent to home in which your pup can romp and play safely with supervision.
