Active walks on leash in parks and/or along walking trails in lovely surroundings. Able to let dogs run off leash in my 1+ acre fenced in yard and I also go to dog parks where dogs can run around in an enclosed environment.
Happy to throw balls or sticks for extra exercise.
For senior dogs, walks can be shorter and/or more leisurely.
Water provided to dogs during and after walks.

Your pup and I can go on long leisurely walks or short walks. I have two dogs at home so I am used to walking more than one dog at a time. I am happy to follow a path that your dog is familiar with or go to a park near the home. One of my dogs is a puller so I have experience with pulling and tugging while on a walk.

My husband, son and I are all dog lovers and have two older Australian Shepherds. We also have a baby girl who is sure to be a dog lover once she gets a little older! I am originally from Massachusetts, but my family and I have lived in Hendersonville for two years now. We have also lived in Tennessee and Washington State. I have a degree in Wildlife Ecology and have worked as a park ranger and as a biologist, but I am currently a stay-at-home mom.

I have done a lot of pet sitting for friends and neighbors and will be happy to provide references. I have cared for cats, fish, lizards. rabbits, chickens, ducks, horses, goats and the following dog breeds: golden retriever, border collie, german short-haired pointer, jack Russell terrier, brittany spaniel, basset hound, cocker spaniel, maltese, yorkshire terrier.

We would love to have your well-socialized dogs visit our home and play in our fenced in yard (approximately a half acre of grass, garden and shrubs with great views of the quiet road where neighbors like to walk by to say hi to our dogs). We have a doggy door leading from our screened in porch to our fenced in back yard.

Your dog must be good with children and other dogs. My dogs do well with small dogs, female dogs, and older dogs. Large, young male dogs who are not well socialized (particularly those that are not neutered) probably won't be a good match for us. We usually prefer to have one dog at a time, but we can sometimes accept two. When possible I like to do a meet and greet before hand.

I am also available for walks and home visits. As a stay at home mom, I have a very flexible schedule and will be happy to come as often as needed.

We love to go for walks in our quiet neighborhood and in the many great parks in this area. I love to brush my dogs and would be happy to groom and/or bathe yours.

I offer individual walks, catered to the activity level of each pet. My preference is a leisurely walk, with time for the dog (or two or more from the same family) to roll in the grass, sniff interesting things, chase their toys or just watch the world go by. This is their time, to stretch their legs, engage in attention and enjoy being a dog.

I will let your "baby" or "babies" walk at his or her pace, taking time to sniff everything as we go! I feel it is extremely important for dogs to get enough daily exercise and plenty of social interaction, and not become lazy dogs! I am fortunate enough to have a fenced in yard so my dogs continuously run around and play with each other. I realize that not everyone has fenced in property at their homes, therefore, planned walks / exercise is detrimental to their pet's health and well-being. Plus they sleep better at night!

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Hendersonville

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Hendersonville, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Hendersonville. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
