Having my own dogs I understand how important it is that they are walked and taken care of. Some dogs need walks for bowel movements and most need it for an energy outlet. I love walking my dogs rain or shine. It's one of the highlights of their day as well for me. When it come to different breeds I like to mold the walk to their abilities. Some like to just walk, some like to run or jog and some just like to bop around. I adjust to their needs.

My business is Urban Tails. I specialize in leisure walks and steady, fast paced walks. I have special walks for seniors and overweight dogs. I do not do dog running. Play is involved in my walks. We can also go to the park if there is one nearby. Catch, jumping games involved in visits. I walk up to 2 dogs at a time. I firmly believe that to give the attention needed for each individual dog, a limit of two dogs is best. I do provide harnesses if the dogs regular collar is not a proper fit. I provide organic, natural treats (if dog is allowed treats). A GPS device is used on all walks. If this is an overnight, we will have lots of fun. I will come over about 6:00pm and stay until 6:00am the next morning with check-ins through out the day. Hours are flexible.

Most of the walks I take just depend on the speed of the dog! If the dog is slow, I'll go slow. But if he's fast I'm okay with a quicker speed! I'm also responsible about picking up the poop and I have great patience in allowing them to sniff around a little but I am also sure to not let them learn any bad walking habits.

I am an active dog sitter..I will walk/run with your dog at the level you recommend. I can do a slow walk for older dogs or run up to 2 miles for an active doggy. If you are comfortable with it, I can bring your dog to the local dog park for socializing time or to the dog beach in Muskegon during the warm months.
Or if you prefer, we can stay at home and get our exercise around the yard and walks throughout the neighborhood.

I have been around animals since I was small, My Parents always had at least two dogs while we were growing up. I also have had one dog ( 6 years) and one cat( 4 Years). I love animals and taking care of them. I have had large dogs all my life and believe a good dog is a walked dog.

Dependent on the dog, it can either be short/long, leisurely or more active, and solo or multiple (if they are okay with other dogs). We have water (river) access near the house as well if they like swimming. I like to bring treats with me as well to ensure they behave well. There is plenty of walking trails around my area both shaded/full sunshine. We have multiple dog parks as well if they like that.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Grand Rapids

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Grand Rapids, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Grand Rapids. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
