While walking the dog(s), I will likely avoid busy streets like South University, South State Street, and Washtenaw. Instead, I will target areas like the campus diag, the side streets past Hill Street, and especially the Nichols Arboretum (about a half mile from my residence). If the dog(s) want to run, I am willing to run with them as well. In addition, if I find a safe, open area, I would bring a tennis ball to play fetch with the dog(s).

I will take your dog on at least three 30 minute walks a day (morning, evening, and night). I am also willing to bathe your dog if necessary for an extra fee. As you can tell from my pictures I enjoy spending time outdoors, so if the weather permits, and if I have permission your pup may join Deacon and I on outdoor adventures.

On the other hand, I can also be a homebody- and will treat your pup to a nice snooze and snuggle on the couch in front of Netflix or a good book.

I'll adjust walking to the way your dog wants! Either an active pace or leisurely pace. I will also confirm whether or not you'd like to your dog walked alone or with others as I can do both! I usually go about a mile in 30 minutes time but can either go faster or slower. I often run with my dog so that is also an option. I can also bring your dog to the dog park and have them run around!

Our walks can be customized to your pup’s preference. Taking only one pup family at a time, usually walk 30 minutes to an hour. Also, if more interactive play is favored over a long walks, we can leave time for fetch, play and petting sessions. A visit to a dog park for socialization can also be arranged.

I have a German Shepherd of my own, who is 6 years old. I've had him since he was a puppy. On top of raising my own dog, I am also a dog-walker at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. I have experience with all sorts of dogs, ranging from Chihuahuas to Great Danes. I've also handled 'challenging dogs' which qualify for our Level 2 Walking program. It just means that I've done a lot of training and been exposed to various types of behaviors that are not the easiest to handle for beginners.

Leisure, active walks. I can handle multiple dogs that are small-medium in size. I am willing to visit dog parks and to make sure any pet excrement is disposed of properly. Leash trained dogs are preferred but not required. I do have plenty of patience for the greatest

I do not have a lot of experience with walking pets, but I want to be able to learn. I will ask owner how they go for the walks, and what they like to do, and I can repeat their routines. I can start with one dog, and if necessary, I can go up from there. I am a quick learner, and I love pets, so I would be happy if I can get this opportunity.

I would be glad to walk as many dogs as you have at one time. I love to walk on trails around the Ann Arbor area because they have lots of space for off leash adventures if dogs are trained for that. I would be happy to run or ride my bike with dogs as well, if they have a little bit more energy than most.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Ann Arbor

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Ann Arbor, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Ann Arbor. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
