Depending on size and age most walks are a combination of running, and walking. I like to take them to dog parks if they are able to and play as well. Walks are usually about a mile long and go along nice pathways and parks. My favorite place to take animals is the Longwood area.

The dog will be as active as it needs to be on walks. There is a dog park near my apartment that the dog can run around in a large, fenced in field. The dog park usually has multiple dogs running around in the area. My dog walks are solo to one dog unless the owner has multiple dogs in the family that need to be taken care of. I will walk a mile around the block. The are is family orientated and safe for dogs.

Dogs go on leisurely solo walks with me, during my care.

With owner permission, I may include my own dog during walks sometimes - but that would be discussed ahead of time, and only in circumstances where the dog's walking needs are compatible. Honey is a slow walker and prefers to hang behind and sniff everything, so it's not always appropriate for her to accompany other dogs on walks.

I am more than happy to do Solo or multi-dog walks. Normally I keep an active pace but let them sniff and explore. However, I am more than happy to do a solo slower walk with those needing a little more sniffing or need to work out some tired old bones.

For me, walks are with one client at a time, at whatever pace the pup needs or wants! A stroll to the dog park, or an action-packed adventure around the lake, I'm up for anything. There are lots of local hikes I would love to take your pup on...we might even take a dip in a pond if (s)he is willing!

Most of the walks are a balance between leisurely and active. I usually walk up to 2-3 dogs at a time. It is of course important to ensure that each dog is getting its exercise and potty break. I can walk them under all weather conditions and am sure to transport them safely to and from their homes. Lastly, I feel it is important to give each dog the love and attention during their walks by stopping by a large grassy area from time to time to allow them to rest and/or play.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Brookline

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Brookline, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Brookline. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
