Typically I let the dog decide the nature of our walk. As we get to know each other we will work out appropriate walks for his or her needs. Some dogs enjoy a potty break followed by a brisk walk, but others enjoy leisurely jaunts with lots of sniffs.

I've been an avid walker my entire life and absolutely love sharing the joy of a good walk with a dog. I like to keep a brisk pace when I walk so the dog stays focused and feels the exercise. With that being said though, I will always adjust my speed to the needs of the dog and will allow plenty of stops to smell and 'handle business'. I'm comfortable walking dogs of all sizes and am confident walking multiple dogs at once.

Leisurely: through the neighborhood and stopping at each green space and places where we can sit outside.

Active: Usually go to a nearby gated park and toss the toy of choice around, let them socialize with other doggies!

Multiple dogs: (Same as Leisure and Active) can take them to a gated park and have them socialize with other dogs and sometime it's even fun to leash them to each other, so they learn not to pull on the leash so much!

Solo dogs: (Same as Leisure and Active) If there are places I can bring them inside, I do that also on walks, especially if the dog like social people's attention.

**Really, every dog has different needs on walks and care, so as long as we communicate what those needs are, I can accommodate!

My dog walks are tailored to the dogs being walked. Active dogs will get a brisker walk. Playful dogs may get a stop in a fenced park for some ball or frisbee. Older or less active dogs get a nice, leisurely walk.

Walking together is a great way for dogs to socialize, and a recommended strategy for getting shy or anxious dogs to become comfortable with other dogs. You can request that your dog be walked solo or with other dogs. For the safety of the dogs trusted in my care, I never walk more than 3 dogs at once.

Depending on the dog's temperament, exercise and social needs, I'm happy to adapt the walk from leisurely to upbeat. We can play with other dogs/animals/people, have some fetch, or tug-of-war time. We can work on leash skills or off-leash skills (if appropriate/legal). Whatever the pup and their person are looking for, I'm happy to oblige :)

Most walks are leisurely and with multiple dogs - my own included. However, if any dogs require more active exercising, that can be accommodated. I just stopping by and walking dogs around your neighborhood, I can adhere to any specialized instructions - pace, length, geriatric, or special needs.

Walks can be leisurely or active, depending on your preference. I am willing to walk around the neighborhood or take your dog to the nearest dog park for off-leash play (if you approve). All walks will be solo unless you are requesting walks for multiple dogs.

Whatever your dog needs. If it is a more active dog we will walk faster and longer, and if you have a lower energy or older dog we will take shorter slower walks. I am here to accommodate you and your dog(s), so whatever they are used to is what we will do. If you have multiple dogs that are used to walking together I will walk them together, and if necessary can walk them separately. I will not walk your dog with other owners dogs.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in New Orleans

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in New Orleans, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in New Orleans. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
