Leisurely walks would include walks around the neighborhood. For Active dogs and multiple, I would take to the dog park, longer walks, and play time in the backyard. Depending on age of the dog(s), visits to parks and trails would be a preferred summer activity.

I can go at whatever pace is appropriate for the dog. Walking multiple dogs at a time is no problem. I am also an experienced trainer so I can help with any leash manners problems the dog has. They will benefit from this and be easier to walk the next time you take them yourself.

I am willing to change my walking style to fit the style of the dog I am walking. For example, if it is an active dog I would not mind jogging along with him/her to burn off some energy. I am comfortable jogging long distances (1-3 miles) and do it ever so often with my own dog. If the dog is geriatric then I would allow him/her plenty of breaks and water. My personal dog (Hercules) loves going for long walls, I would not mind bringing him along if the dog I am walking is dog friendly and motivated by a furry friend. I was a veterinary technician for a couple years and I am currently studying to be a veterinarian at Iowa State Vet School. This has shown me the importance of regular exercise to keep our pets not long in a good weight range but happy and satisfied as well. I would love to get to know each of your pets and get some outdoor time away from the books. It is a win-win for everyone!

I am capable of doing the kind of walk your dog (or dogs) require whether that be a slow pace or a faster, more active face. I can walk multiple at once if needed. I am always trying to get back into running some, so if your dog enjoys that, I can do it as well. I can also let into the yard to do ball throwing or whatever your dog prefers!

I move at a pretty quick pace and let the dogs sniff around when they want to. I can do solo walks or bring my dog Cleo along. During the summer I tend to stay away from walks during the middle of the day because the cement is hot on paws. Dogs that want to run can run with me, otherwise I usually walk for 45 minutes to one hour, but can adjust as necessary.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Ames

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Ames, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Ames. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
