Depending on the age, health conditions, etc., we will tour the neighborhood either in a leisurely fashion or a light jog. We'll explore fields, grassy patches, and stop to take in the sights, sounds, and smells. Unless you own more than one dog we will be venturing out solo.

In general I do solo walks so that the dog can have one on one attention. Walks are nice and long in a leisurely, unless request for weight maintenance is requested in which walks can be made more active. Through volunteer work I have been trained to do walks with shelter dogs and dogs with problems being overweight. Through an externship program I have been trained to walk dogs who were boarding at a veterinary hospital or who were recovering from surgery.

My walks can be varied depending on what the owners prefer for their dogs. I can do outdoors, long calming walks, beach side walks, park walks, sometimes could be active or running walks, and possibly some up trail hikes. I also live in a dog friendly neighbor which is a great and safe area to walk. There is a even a small park area where dogs are allowed where they can running around or throw some ball.

Leisurely or active depending on the dog. I run 4 miles 3 times a week so I can do up to that with a dog. I feel comfortable walking multiple dogs if they are smaller (under 20 lbs) and prefer larger dogs to walk solo. I also am an avid hiker so if your dog is an adventurer I can take them on a hike you approve/feel comfortable with.

The type of walk depends on the dog's energy level and needs. I can take high energy dogs on jogs for senior dogs, I would let the dog set the pace. After finding out the owner and dog's needs, I can adjust the walk to fit the dog. I enjoy taking dogs on walks at Fort Derussey Park. If there is a park or greenscape nearby the owner's home, I will walk there. Depending on the location, I can walk the dogs on the beach.

I prefer to walk only one dog at a time to maintain control, but if dogs are calm and obedient on leash then they can be walked two at a time. Typically walks are leisurely, letting the dog go at his or her own pace and explore, but I can do more active jogs or hikes if desired for exercise.

I am willing to do leisure and active walks. I can take time for older dogs who need a slower pace or jog with your pup who needs to get his energy out! I do not mind walking multiple dogs. I could manage up to 4 to 5 dogs. I am experienced with walking big dogs. I'm a fairly small person but I've handled large dogs before.

The walks that I offer are solo, or a group from the same household. I like to do this to ensure that your pet(s) are getting adequate exercise and attention. The walks range from leisurely to active. This all depends on your dogs needs. For example, I have an older dog that has arthritis and likes to walk for 10 minutes and then rest. I am with her for an hour, so we will walk a little and then rest a little. I have another dog that as a lot of energy in the beginning and then slows down for the second half of the walk, so we walk at a quick pace for the first 30 minutes and walk at a leisurely pace the last 30 minutes.

I am open to as much or as little activity as the dog is used to or can increase for health monitoring and helping normally lazy dogs and overweight dogs to get in better shape.
I can run, walk, take to the beach and spend as much or as little time as necessary.
Please just advise me what you are used to and I am happy to oblige!

My walks depend on the dogs really. If I have dogs that are full of energy or like to pull, I really enjoy long quick paced walks with a couple breaks usually so I can catch my breath. I also enjoy hiking with animals. everyone connecting with nature really mellows everyone out. I'm a pretty active guy, and know from my own experience exercise helps people and dogs live longer.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Honolulu

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Honolulu, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Honolulu. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
