As a former dog trainer, I consider the walk with our dogs to be one of the most crucial activities we do for our animals, therefore walks should be conducted with confidence, attention to your surroundings, patience, and the ability to correct a dog gently so as to establish what the expectations for behavior are. While walks are definitely a leisurely activity, I do like to keep a brisk pace,
so I make sure to tire the pups out sufficiently, but to also satisfy the migration instinct that all dogs are equipped with. I have walked as many as four dogs at a time of all different sizes and strengths and am always vigilant in bringing tools (clicker, treats, air corrector) so I may manage any obstacles or unexpected disturbances that come up.
