I prefer to follow the route of the dogs owners if possible, other than that a nice 30-60 minute walk with some leash training if desired by the owners. I prefer to walk one dog at a time although I will walk up to two dogs at a time if they are a bonded pair, I agree with the Humane Societies position of never walking multiple dogs from various homes. I do not like to take dogs to a dog park and let them off leash unless I've worked them for an extended time. Finally I follow the Humane Society protocol of "treating" dogs whenever they do what I've asked, reward training is positive reinforcement.

We have Los Gatos creek trail close to my house which give me the opportunity to walk my dog and yours on the trail. Take them to dog park with agreement of the owner. Walking in the neighborhood park. Also I always play Fitch with my dog in the backyard. Or if I go to the client house, I can walk the dog in their neighborhood or close by par.

Lots of exercise is definitely important for our furry friends! I would like to know your dogs needs to help out with their walks. I enjoy taking my dog to the park and hiking on trails. My dog dog occasionally needs to stop and take breather so we tend to take breaks and I give him some water. Depending on where you live and where you prefer your dog goes on the walks, the Los Gatos Creek Trail is a good hike for dogs. I would also like to know your dogs temperament, does your furry friend have tons of energy and pulls a lot? Or does your dog just go with the flow and like to sniff all the plants?

Our walks can be anywhere from short and leisurely to long and challenging. I think it is most important to match the activity to the dog's abilities and energy level. We are very active and love to hike. I am a field biologist and I know a lot of great opportunities for your dog to experience the local trails. We enjoy matching the hiking experience to the four-legged hikers' needs.

We also have a small dog, bichon/shitsu mix, who is very friendly and loves to play. If a long walk is too much for your dog, either because their legs are tiny like ours' or because you have a graceful senior, we would visit a nearby park for some low impact romping, sniffing, and canine socializing.

Top tips for getting started with a dog walker in Los Gatos

  1. Look for a dog walker who has passed a background check.
  2. Ask a DogVacay dog walker for a free Meet-n-Greet. Take your pet for a short stroll in Los Gatos, letting the dog walker hold the leash. You’ll know quickly if this is the right person for your pet.
  3. Then visit your home with the dog walker, so your pet becomes comfortable with this person in the dog’s territory.
  4. Make plans for letting the DogVacay dog walker into your home. Some people may feel comfortable providing a key. Others keep a key in a combination lockbox. Many people use smart locks and programmable key codes.
  5. Discuss the length and route of the walk in your neighborhood in Los Gatos. Cover what kind of updates you want (such as a “bathroom” log or behavior notes).
  6. Explain what your treat policy is after a walk. Keep treats safely stored, and let the dog walker know where to find them.
  7. Make sure your pet has the right harnesses, collars, leashes and equipment for a safe and fun walk.
