About Colleen

15 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Hi, we are Nicko and Colleen, and we love dogs. We will take care for your dog as if it were one of our own, and probably spoil your dog!

Our Guests
We only care for dogs who are ages 2+ and can sleep through the night, are housebroken, well behaved (chews toys only and not overly barky), and up to date with vaccinations. Unfortunately, we cannot care for a dog in heat.

Our Experience
We regularly open our home to friends and family to for dog play dates and we have enjoyed caring for our friends' and family's dogs while their owners are out of town.

We grew up with dogs and can't imagine life without them. We've adopted and cared for 4 dogs these past 15 years of our marriage together, and they were like our children. Sadly, 3 of our dogs are now in doggie heaven. Libby, our sweet Beagle, was with us for 10 years. We adopted another Beagle, Fred, who was 10 years old at the time and he had congestive heart failure. We are familiar with medically compromised dogs. We adopted Suka, our gentle English Setter, at age 8 and she lived with us until she passed at age 13. We miss them!

Our dog, Poppy
Currently we have only one dog, Poppy, who is 2 1/2 years old and absolutely loves to make new dog friends! She is very playful and energetic and regularly has play dates with other dogs. She did a superb job of making dog friends at doggie daycare. The doggie daycare coordinators made Poppy a leader in helping new dogs learn to acclimate to doggie daycare.

Our home:
We have a 2,500 sq ft dog-friendly home with mostly tile and wood floors. Our huge, fenced yard allows dogs to run around and get exercise they need.

Dogs would be kept during the daytime in our closed-off kitchen and living room area which has 2 skylights and large, bay windows overlooking the backyard. The rooms have a southern exposure, allowing sunlight to stream in all day long. From these rooms, your dog can watch the birds at the feeder in the yard and lay in the sunlight. We have dog crates but would not crate your dog unless you requested this.

Your dog would sleep on a dog bed you bring in our large, master bedroom next to our dog, Poppy.

There are sliding doors to the backyard which it easy to go outside to the yard. This is an advantage if your pet is older, since there are no stairs to enter our house, or go outside, or hang out in the kitchen/living room area.

We also offer dog treats and fluffy dog blankets for maximum dog pampering!

Our Schedule
Colleen has flexible hours with her job and usually is not gone from home for more than 6 hours during the day. She can change her schedule to work from home to accommodate your dog if there are special concerns. We typically leave Poppy in the kitchen/living room area for 6 hours during workdays. She chews on toys, bones and enjoys watching the birds from the bay windows. We are home most evenings, sitting with the dog on the couches by our wood burning fireplace in the winter or outside with Poppy enjoying the large yard in good weather.

Feel free to schedule a meeting with us and ask any questions you may have. We want to be sure to make you feel comfortable while you are away and your dog is in our care. We would all welcome your dog in our home and we look forward to your dog's stay with us!

Colleen is an exceptional care taker, she sent pictures daily. Our dogs got along very well and Chewy looked happy! I have boarded Chewy before, but DogVacay is so much better! I will be using Colleen whenever I will be going out of town. He was in a home where he was shown love on a daily basis. Thank you Colleen!

Colleen and Nicko were GREAT along with their adaorable dog Poppy. My lab loves to play ball and exercise. Collen took her on a 4 mile run and Nicko played ball with her. She slept for the next 2 days!!
We will be using Collen and Nicko in the future, because it is SO apparent how much they LOVE dogs. Multiple txt messages were sent to me documenting her dog vacay!!

Colleen and Nikko (sp?) are such genuinely nice people. Not only were my twins, Leo and Stella, so wonderfully cared for, but me as well. They sent photos and videos of the dogs throughout their stay. Their dog Poppy was a great hostess, sharing her house and backyard with them. They all had so much fun playing in their snowy backyard.....dog heaven.
I have already scheduled another stay with them! Thank you so much!
