Hi, we are Nicko and Colleen, and we love dogs. We will take care for your dog as if it were one of our own, and probably spoil your dog!
We only care for dogs who are ages 2+ and can sleep through the night, are housebroken, well behaved (chews toys only and not overly barky), and up to date with vaccinations. Unfortunately, we cannot care for a dog in heat.
We regularly open our home to friends and family to for dog play dates and we have enjoyed caring for our friends' and family's dogs while their owners are out of town.
We grew up with dogs and can't imagine life without them. We've adopted and cared for 4 dogs these past 15 years of our marriage together, and they were like our children. Sadly, 3 of our dogs are now in doggie heaven. Libby, our sweet Beagle, was with us for 10 years. We adopted another Beagle, Fred, who was 10 years old at the time and he had congestive heart failure. We are familiar with medically compromised dogs. We adopted Suka, our gentle English Setter, at age 8 and she lived with us until she passed at age 13. We miss them!
Our dog, Poppy
Currently we have only one dog, Poppy, who is 2 1/2 years old and absolutely loves to make new dog friends! She is very playful and energetic and regularly has play dates with other dogs. She did a superb job of making dog friends at doggie daycare. The doggie daycare coordinators made Poppy a leader in helping new dogs learn to acclimate to doggie daycare.
We have a 2,500 sq ft dog-friendly home with mostly tile and wood floors. Our huge, fenced yard allows dogs to run around and get exercise they need.
Dogs would be kept during the daytime in our closed-off kitchen and living room area which has 2 skylights and large, bay windows overlooking the backyard. The rooms have a southern exposure, allowing sunlight to stream in all day long. From these rooms, your dog can watch the birds at the feeder in the yard and lay in the sunlight. We have dog crates but would not crate your dog unless you requested this.
Your dog would sleep on a dog bed you bring in our large, master bedroom next to our dog, Poppy.
There are sliding doors to the backyard which it easy to go outside to the yard. This is an advantage if your pet is older, since there are no stairs to enter our house, or go outside, or hang out in the kitchen/living room area.
We also offer dog treats and fluffy dog blankets for maximum dog pampering!
Colleen has flexible hours with her job and usually is not gone from home for more than 6 hours during the day. She can change her schedule to work from home to accommodate your dog if there are special concerns. We typically leave Poppy in the kitchen/living room area for 6 hours during workdays. She chews on toys, bones and enjoys watching the birds from the bay windows. We are home most evenings, sitting with the dog on the couches by our wood burning fireplace in the winter or outside with Poppy enjoying the large yard in good weather.
Feel free to schedule a meeting with us and ask any questions you may have. We want to be sure to make you feel comfortable while you are away and your dog is in our care. We would all welcome your dog in our home and we look forward to your dog's stay with us!
