My husband and I have lived with dogs all our lives. My husband's nickname with his family is the Dog Whisperer. No matter what dog he encounters he can always get them to follow his instructions. Nine years ago, he taught our then very hyper Jack Russell Terrier puppy 20 commands that she would execute flawlessly. Fast forward to now and we have added 2 more small/medium dogs to our family.

Our home is one level but we have a few stairs leading to the backyard. We have made dog ramps for these stairs to make it easier on our JRT. This might be a benefit for senior dogs as well.

Availability
We have first hand experience taking care of post surgical dogs. Our Jack Russell Terrier suffered from a Fibrocartilagenous Embolism two years ago. She was completely paralyzed for 2 weeks but received physical therapy and acupuncture that had her up and walking within 4 weeks.
