I'm a huge fan of this service and have had many positive experiences with Dog Vacay. I started off only using Dog Vacay for a sitter, but I figured why not also host during holidays when I have spare time off work. I'm 27 and have grown up with (large) dogs my entire life. However, I have recently been more involved with smaller breeds. My boyfriend and I rescued 2 Italian Greyhounds. We chose this breed because their a good fit for our lifestyle (e.g, energy level, minimal grooming). Both of them are great with other dogs and keep each other company.
Dogs in my home:
Fredo aka "Sir Fredo":
Male, 4 y/o, neutered, 16 pounds.
Fredo was rescued from all the way from Ottuma, IA! He's came a long way and I'm happy to report he's happy, healthy and full of energy! If you have food in your hand, you're his new best friend. He LOVES other dogs, thus along came Nadia...
Nadia aka "Nadi, Nadi":
Female, 2 y/o, spayed, 10 pounds
Nadia was rescued from Bloomington, IN! She's a happy go lucky little girl who loves to play! She loves to be under the blankets and will snuggle with anyone!
Both of them are great with other dogs. They will bark A LOT the first few minutes someone new enters the home...they like their voices to be heard...eventually after a few minutes we all calm down.
Overnight Boards/Day Care:
I'm only willing to take small (20 pounds max) dogs in my home, since I have 2 little ones. I love big dogs, but I want to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
Drop in Visits:
Big on the big guys! I'd be most comfortable with dogs under 60 pounds. I've grown up with pitbulls, labs, shepards, collies and dobermans. However, I'm always willing to drop in and take care the little puppies too!
My experience with dogs:
-I've been through 2 rounds of obedience classes
What I'm not willing to host:
-Dogs with aggression issues. If the dog is coming here, I would like a meet and greet prior to the visit to observe to ensure there are no signs of aggression (e.g, showing teeth, lunging, foaming at the mouth, locked eyes) from the dog.
I'm planning to do this during holidays when I'm off work or weekends only. My goal is to provide a safe, fun, comfortable, friendly environment for all of us! I'm happy to answer any of your questions, please feel free to contact me.
We have lots of fun activities and playmates! Plenty of trails nearby for walks, a fenced in backyard, brand new flood lights so the fur babies aren't running around in the dark, a bay window with a dog bed and plenty of toys!
