About Stephan

40 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Welcome! My name is Stephan. I am a long-time high school English teacher who works with students with mild to moderate disabilities. I love my job and I love working with dogs. I am also currently taking courses towards certification as a licensed dog trainer and would be happy to offer any advice or help you may need in training your canine friend. I live in a well-established neighborhood close to plenty of parks and the Truckee River Walk. My house is extremely dog-friendly and I have a big backyard with lots of running room for your four legged friend. I have two dogs of my own. They are my kids. Ash is a retired therapy dog and Baxter is the newbie on the block and in training to become one. I take dogs with me everywhere, every chance I get. Whether it's a small stay at Desert Dog Village (a.k.a. my house) or a longer one, rest assured your dog will return to your loving and open arms happy, well-rested, and content. And with tail wagging of course!

“IF A DOG WERE YOUR TEACHER”
If a dog were your teacher, you’d learn stuff like…
When loved ones come home, always run and greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. When it’s in your best interest—practice obedience. Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory. Take naps and stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body. No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout… run right back and make friends. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough. Be loyal. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Gus was very happy playing and meeting new doggie friends at Stephan's. I would definitely recommend him.
This was my first experience using DogVacay. I left my military foster dog, Nikolai, a very sensitive and gentle Borzoi with Stephan while I vacationed in Mexico for 9 days.

When I reached out via email to Stephan he was responsive. He suggested a meet & greet with his dogs to ensure Nikolai got along with them. I was a little nervous because Nikolai is so shy and timid, I was worried he'd be overwhelmed by Stephan's three other dogs. When I met Stephan, my first impression was of friendliness and mellowness. He is very easy-going and kind, and his house and yard are dog friendly.

Every day of my vacation, he'd send me pictures of Nikolai along with a little note of how he was doing. Nikolai was so comfortable that first night with Stephan that he ate (many dogs won't eat the first night in a strange place). Those pictures warmed my heart and I felt he was in good hands.

When I got back home and picked Nikolai up, Stephan mentioned that he even crashed in the family room with the dogs a few nights, like a big doggie slumber party. He seems to truly love dogs and accepts all kinds - big and small, of all temperaments. Nikolai is very shy and sensitive and Stephan made sure he was given lots of attention and felt at home.

I would definitely recommend and use DogVacay, and Stephan, again. As a matter of fact, I've already had the opportunity to recommend DogVacay to another friends.
