Although business like, this is a hobby for Scamp and my enjoyment and stimulation. I accept select, well socialized and reasonably trained dogs and always require a pre-placement
I'm retired and up early with my dog, a mini schnauzer. My routine is to take the dogs into the fenced side yard about 6 am then for a minimum 30-minute walk about 8 am and 6 pm with a last outing about 9 pm. In between there is lots of outdoor playtime. I have a 2.5-acre lot as do all the homes on my quiet residential road. I back onto 350 acres of fields. As an adult, I have owned a couple Weimaraners, a Great Dane, a Dalmatian and a Lab/greyhound in addition to a couple of rescue dogs and a few cats. I got my first Mini Schnauzer when my Lab/greyhound was middle-aged. When my Mini Schnauzer passed I got my current dog, Scamp. I'm not as active as I once was but my routines and activities are suitable for an active smaller dog. I accept larger dogs and they get adequate exercise. If they come when called, I can also play with them in the large back yard (which is 3/4 fenced and has the house between it and the front, which is not fenced). I make provisions for small dogs, like using my tractor and snow shoeing to make paths through the snow. I have involved myself in various dog classes and training, to socialize and work my dogs, to broaden or refresh my knowledge and because they are fun. My dog is a great joy to me and a primary focus of my day, as are visiting animals. I will only accept one family's pets at a time unless all animals are adequately known to me.
My adult daughter and her 2 cats live with me. The cats are gentle and playful with my dog. They do have a section of the house where they can stay but I won't knowingly take a cat aggressive dog.
I don't offer grooming but I do all my own dog's grooming including her teeth and nails and will take care of any immediate needs your dog has.
I'm doing this for Scamp's and my pleasure. I only accept friendly, totally house trained and reasonably other wise trained dogs. Vaccinations and an effective method of flea and parasite control are a must for your pet. Please confirm this when you arrange for a meet-and-greet.
I'm flexible regarding drop off time, but pick up is to be the same time of day as the scheduled drop off time or earlier. You may schedule a later pickup time for $5 per hour. If you're running late, please call and I will only charge daycare rates. In the case of extended stays, I normally offer an hour's leeway, more if I'm aware of particular circumstances. If you simply show up late, there is a $20 fee for up to 3 hours and $5 every hour after that. Since I turn away other customers once you book, I do not refund for early returns.
Your pets are never left alone until I know that they will be fine. I shop once a week and try to schedule appointments around any new bookings. Even then, I'm rarely gone for more than 3 hours. If I have the slightest concern, my adult daughter will stay with them.
You will receive a handout at your meet-and-greet but if you would like it in advance, please contact me with an email address and I will send it.
Be sure to write down anything that will help me provide the best care.
My method of dog management is non punitive. On the very rare occasion I need to physically intervene with an over excited dog, it would be a brief holding by the scruff of the neck.
Daycare: I will do occasional daycare for regular customers. $5 per hour, $20 minimum and $40 maximum.
