We bring pets into our homes so that we can share the beauty of love and life with them. Their distinct personalities contribute dynamically to the over all social atmosphere, and from day one everything changes for the better.
I realize that there is nothing more satisfying for a pet owner than to enjoy quality time with their happy, clean, fed, psychologically stimulated, and fully exercised pet. My goal is to make life easier for you and more fulfilling for your pet.
The walk (& run) is the single most important tool at a dog owner's disposal for maintaining a dominant role and exercising discipline. Similar to children, dogs from puppy to adulthood require boundaries, rules, and an exercise regimen to keep healthy energy levels and them out of trouble. Frequency and exertion intensity on walks play a huge role in establishing the position of leader in the relationship between you and your pup; what you put it in, you get out. Understanding this, it is my main priority that your dog receives conscious attention and an engaging learning experience every time.
I will provide owners with instructions on how to execute the proper style of walking a rambunctious dog, leash training, dealing with over-excitement, coping with anxiety & aggression, and socialization techniques.
For all other animals, an equivalent level of care and attention will be given during visits or overnight stays***. Each pet, as per the owner's request, will receive active play time, sweet caresses, and socialization (the option of other adults and/or my dog Tony). I find that socializing with members of different species is mutually beneficial to both pets; Tony has learned to interact with children, adults, seniors, cats, and other dogs.
My experience with animals spans across a wide variety of species and sizes. We've had cats in my home for at least 12 years; we've delivered several litters of kittens, rehabilitated and taken in strays, and have raised a handsome young (not so young anymore, I guess) black cat, Smokey. He has been in the family for nearly 10 years now. We picked him up at the supermarket just before the store's closing, and since then have provided him with love, lodging, and excellent medical attention. We have raised three turtles from hatchlings to adulthood and two wild florida hares that had been abandoned in our yard. One of the most recent additions to the family was a stray Sun Conure who landed in my lap during my senior year of high school. His ankle had a date tag, so I knew he had escaped from captivity and took him in. He is happily in our care, and free to roam parts of our home. Lastly, the most recent addition to my life is my Border Collie/Lab mix, Tony. He's been quite the handful, but in just 9 months, we have trained him to walk off the leash, respond to verbal commands, interact with other animals, approach strangers politely, and respect boundaries in the home.
It is a full-time job, being a pet owner. The job is never finished, and some times we just need a little help. That's what I am here for. I can't wait to hear from you, and meet the members of your pack.
*** Overnight stays and extended day-time, in-home pet sitting are available under the condition that the pet owner would allow me at least one guest (family member or trusted friend) to stay with me for the duration of my visit.
