I have spent my entire life with some sort of pet. Growing up we always had dogs and dogs of many different breeds. Everything from a Pug to a Great Dane, Hounds, Rotties, Pits, Chow mixes, Huskey, and various mixed breeds and almost all of them came from the shelter or homes that could no longer keep them. I have always had cats in my life for as long as I can remember.
We rent our home and have a great relationship with the land lord and he allows us to have pets. There is a fully fenced yard with a large pad lock on the one gate. Every time I let our dogs outside for potty breaks or to run around I am always with them, Our Corgi Border Collie Mix likes to bark at things he can't even see and has pulled out plants in my yard so I try to keep an eye on him so he doesn't bother tour neighbors lol. He's not aggressive at all just likes to make his presence known to the dragonfly on the fence. lol I get up at 6am with my husband and send him off to work. I let the dogs out and give them water and fill their food bowls if they are empty. I then either do chores or work out in the house. The baby wakes up and I feed her. Maxx usually wants to play after this so we play tug-o-war with his toys and fetch. I also have tennis balls for him to fetch in the yard. I don't let the dogs stay outside for very long during the day because it's so hot and sadly we have no shade in our yard. We are hoping to build a large pergola in the yard sometime this year so that we can all have some shade. I do have a kiddie pool that I will sometimes fill with water to let the dogs play and lay in on really hot days. Bebi, our 9 year old Belgian Shepherd, LOVES to lay in the pool and run through it sometimes.
Both our dogs have great personalities and are good with other dogs. They have been around multiple dogs many many times in their lives. I visit with my mother once a week and she has 2 dogs and our dogs get along with them well. I have taken our dogs to visit my grandparents in Cape Coral and they have 8 tiny dogs (mostly all chihuahua breeds) and they all get along well. Sometimes my husband and I will take our dogs to the park but always on a leash. They also just like going for a ride and sometimes I will take them with me to the store but never during the summer, usually just in the winter so they don't get hot.
I like to think our dogs have a good life because I love them unconditionally and I know they love me back. Anytime we leave the house without them they are always at the door to greet us when we get back. The only restrictions I have in our home is that they are not allowed in the baby’s room but I always keep her door closed anyway. Other than that our dogs and cats are like our children and have free roam and can do whatever they want.
I used to work full time and hated leaving Bebi and Maxx at home all alone but could not afford a sitter for them. I know I can provide a good day for your loved pup while you are away. I can promise you they would not be unhappy spending the day with us. :)
