I'm a full-time event planner at PBS; therefore I can't get a dog of my own because I'm usually traveling. I grew up with dogs all my life until I moved DC in 2008. I currently volunteer Homeward Trails Animal Rescue walking, feeding and playing with the rescue dogs.
My backyard is fenced all around. 2/3 of it is a 6ft tall fence....1/4 of it is a 3ft wired fence. Out neighbor has a small dog that is overprotective of the wired fence so he tends to bark at any dog that comes near it until he finally gets tired and moves on to chasing squirrels. If you're dog is not friendly with other dogs and is likely to jump that 3ft fence, then I would reconsider.
We also have a very large basement where dogs can stay if it's raining or snowing. I don't mind dogs in the house but just not on the sofa or beds, especially if they shed a lot of hair. If my husband isn't around, I'll let them cuddle up on the sofa a little. :)
I look forward to playing and caring for your doggie soon!
