Scores of "5-star" reviews and repeat customers! THE very BEST host in the West Valley. Big dogs, small dogs, seniors and puppies. We love them all!! HERE'S OUR STORY:
Mark and Carol are "work at home" dog lovers with a secure, safe and very comfortable home-based environment. In the same house for 3 decades, we've had extensive experience with puppies, seniors, giant dogs, tiny dogs and everything in between. We have taken care of many "special-needs" dogs with health issues that require strict diets, injections, wound-care or medications. We’ve had deaf dogs and two of the dogs that have lived here in the past were completely blind.
There are three permanent "canine kids" at Casa McKibben. Neo is a 118-pound Labradoodle "gentle giant". He has worked as a certified Therapy Dog at Northridge Hospital, Children's Hospital (CHLA) and Shriners Childrens Hospital. Neo loves to swim and play with other dogs. Thor is an 85-pound yellow Lab that we adopted in June 2015. He's full of energy and playful. We call him the Casa McKibben "Activities Director" since he keeps all the playful guests busy. Ty is a gorgeous Siberian Husky that is a "foster-failure". After fostering him for 3 months, we fell in love and adopted him too. Ty is between 4 and 5 years old, very sweet and also playful. We recently lost our Binks, an 85-pound Labrador that we rescued off the street in Pacoima in 2006 after he barely avoided being hit by a car. Binks was born with a heart defect and had 8 years with us before congestive heart failure took him from us in March, 2015.
As you can see from the pictures, Casa McKibben has a very nice pool (for those avid swimmers) and a securely-enclosed backyard that is puppy-safe and closely-monitored. Mark specializes in teaching dogs how to swim and enjoy the pool. He can do this for your dog if you'd like. The pups hang indoors with us when they aren’t outside playing, but a doggy-door makes it easy for them to go outside whenever desired.
The food offerings at Casa McKibben are unmatched! There are plenty of treats offered during the day including all natural peanut butter snack cookies and freeze-dried beef liver nuggets. Each Sunday morning, we cook up fresh bacon for our canine buddies as a very special "Bacon Sunday" tradition. Most owners bring food for their dog, but we can supply food if that's more convenient. As an option, we can feed your pup Kahoot's premium brand Wild-Caught Salmon and Sweet Potato or Beef and Boar with Vegetables for an extra charge of $4/day. We also stock Purina Veterinary Prescription foods including "OM" (overweight management) and "EN" (gastroenteric for sensitive stomachs). This premium food is supplemented with freshly-cooked chicken/rice or chicken/beef meatballs. We also add tuna to break up the meal routine. Most pups LOVE tuna and always come running when they hear the electric can opener! Our home is even considered a favorite hang-out for all of the neighbor's dogs. Neo’s brother, Ranger, lives across the street. Ranger and his step-sister, Nellie, come over all the time.
Potty-training for puppies, fine-tuning interactive social skills, as well as some basic obedience training, are automatically included in every boarding or daycare experience at Casa McKibben. Our highly-skilled canine "teacher's-aid" (Neo) is the "example-dog" for all our guests ... making the learning experience both fun and rewarding. Mark has been training countless dogs for more than 3 decades and has volunteered his time as a Therapy Dog Trainer/Handler at Northridge Hospital, LA Children's Hospital, Shriner's Children's Hospital as well as various assisted-living facilities (Neo is a certified Therapy Dog). Mark and Carol foster dogs rescued from the mean streets of LA and high-kill shelters in the area ... providing a bridge to their "forever" homes. Mark volunteers his training time to help socialize traumatized shelter dogs on behalf of LA Animal Rescue as well.
Free membership in “Club Casa McKibben” is automatically included for all of our guests. We have regular play dates (usually Saturday afternoons) where we invite you and your pup to hang out with us and enjoy the pool deck for some safe, supervised doggy playtime fun. These play dates are always free of charge and have become very popular. We often have a dozen or more dogs here at one time … swimming, chasing toys, or just enjoying each other. These supervised play dates help all our guest dogs maintain their social skills and they are MUCH safer than taking your dog to a public dog park.
We've been with DogVacay for years and rank among their most experienced and successful hosts nationwide. Don't take our word for it ... read the reviews on our page. Your furbaby will have a great time at Casa McKibben. You'll be able to have peace of mind on your trip with the knowledge that your pup is safe and happy. You won't be disappointed!
