I had an awesome Australian Shepherd for 15-1/2 years. He came as a puppy from the Humane Society in Waukesha (HAWS). We went to obedience school together, and we both learned how to be attentive, well-behaved, and fun in our roles.
My home is on a 1-acre lot in a subdivision where everyone else has at least the same size lot. The back yard is large and private. There is a good stretch of grass for running and playing. Inside, the first floor of the house is very open and is set up pretty well for dogs to move about freely while I’m there. When I’m not there, I am able to section certain areas off.
I own a business that is only about 7 miles from home. Depending on the needs of the dog, I can easily come home for a mid-day break. I will take the dog for a short walk in the morning before work and will make sure there is activity when I get home from work. This usually involves playing ball or Frisbee in the back yard. If the dog is not into that, we will go for a long walk. There will be plenty of dog treats, but I don’t like to give dogs people food or give them treats from the table.
