About Bonnie

10 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Hi,

I am an experienced animal sitter and dog walker, having cared for pets as exotic as snakes and chinchillas, to dogs and cats. I have been a companion to my own dogs and cats for 20 years, and have fostered dogs for local rescue groups, and found them forever homes, for the past ten. I specialize in overnight pet sitting at the owners home, and just completed an assignment in which I spent a weekend with three dogs and a cat and adored every minute of it.

In addition to loving animals and professionally caring for them, I have a history of volunteer activities. Recently, I was deployed to Ohio through a group called Red Rover (the animal wing of FEMA), where I helped care for 90 dogs who were the victims of a hoarding situation. We fed, cleaned, and provided enrichments for all the animals, who are now in facilities from which they can be adopted. I also serve as Deputy District Leader for the Humane Society of the U.S. in which capacity I work with legislators in supporting animal friendly bills. I volunteer with The Animal Support Project and 11th Hour Canine Rescue in assisting with adoption events, tabling at symposiums, and organizing revenue raising opportunities. Last spring, I ran an event I called "Images of Love" in which I invited local artists to create original portraits of hard to adopt dogs and cats from three rescue groups. The paintings were put on display at an area coffee house, and were then gifted to anyone adopting the animals. It was a great success resulting in increased adoptions and an opportunity for the arts and animal communities to come together for common cause.

I would love an opportunity to come to your home and care for your furry companion, either on a part time basis or overnight, when you need to be away. In addition to feeding, walking, and cleaning, I can administer medication and groom/bathe your pet. I even brush teeth! Also, I studied photography in college, so can take pictures of your pet(s) to send to you while you're apart. I respect the individuality of each animal and temper my interaction with them in accord with their unique personality. Therefore, if you have a finicky cat who prefers to remain in the closet, I won't intrude on his privacy, but if you have an attention starved pup, I'll offer all the affection and playfulness he desires.

My home is in Troy, which is central to many locations and I have reliable transportation. Although I prefer advance notice, especially for overnights, I can be available on short notice if your plans suddenly require you to be away. I truly love animals and often prefer their company to that of people, so spending time with your pet would be a joy. I hope you contact me if you need care for your family member. I can be reached at 518 477 9797 or gunjapuppy@gmail.com.. I look forward to speaking with you and seeing how I might help out.

Thank you,
Bonnie E.

I've known Bonnie Engleman for approximately 10 years in my capacity as an associate professor and faculty advisor to the HVCC Animal Outreach Club. The first thing one notices about Bonnie is how petite she is; but this is deceiving! She is a powerhouse in disguise: very principled, passionate and active in animal protection circles; consistent, committed, reliable, and respected. Moreover, Bonnie is a gifted communicator. I would even venture to say she has a brilliant mind. Her calling, however, is animals and I have watched her over the years spread her wings to volunteer with our Animal Outreach Club, the Humane Society of the United States, the League of Humane Voters, and the Humane Party - to name just a few. She can do anything she sets her mind to, and fortunately for the animals (and dogs in particular!) she wants to dog sit.

Just two weeks ago, my husband and I took a vacation, leaving our many animals under the care of a neighbor we have known and trusted for years. We would not have gone on vacation without certainty that our kids, our babies, our family - would be cared for. For a time it looked like our neighbors would also be out of town and unable to watch our animals. In the back of my mind I thought: there is only one other person I would trust to come into my home and respond to the needs of my animals - Bonnie. Luckily our neighbors were able to pet sit after all, but I can assure you that my animals are my world, and I would absolutely entrust Bonnie with their well-being. She is in her element with animals - and recently told me how much joy she derived from dog sitting this past summer. She is aware of the enormous responsibility on her, as well. Bonnie possesses a perfect combination of brains, love of dogs, skill, and dedication. I highly recommend Bonnie for this work.
