I am a retired health care professional with a soft spot for all animals big and small. I worked as a veterinarian assistant during my college years in the summer and weekends. I am on several animal advocacy organizations and donate old towels, newspapers, bedding, food, cat litter, etc. to local shelters. I have a a very gentle Boxer named Jeb who is a big old goof ball, a teacup chihuahua that once belonged to my daughter and is a sweetheart. I also have a cat who's very aloof and keeps to herself. There are 2 outdoor cats that I have taken care of and fed since last year. I clean their wounds, apply medications and Advantage to prevent parasites. I build feral cat houses in the winter that they appear to appreciate. I volunteered to work at the Equine Rescue Group in Gallatin, TN.
I have a very large back yard with a creek as a boundary. My dogs love to run, chase the ball or an occasional squirrel ! They are mesmerized by the birds and other wild life that tend to gather in the trees. The bird feeder on my back deck provides non stop entertainment. My boxer sits on the sofa and watches out of the window.
Jeb, the boxer has slept with me since he was 8 weeks old. I should clarify "slept" and use sprawl instead, he also snores ! The little Chihuahua as well sleeps in the bed, but remains still. In the morning I sometimes find the cat sleeping at the top of my head or licking my eyelashes!
We celebrate birthdays and holidays with special outdoor activities( weather permitting) and treats. I am considering making my own pet treats in the future !
