Pokemon Go has gone to the dogs—rescue dogs, that is! The recent Pokemon craze is benefitting shelter dogs across North America in three huge ways. Volunteer dog walkers are eager to take a dog along while they play the game, charity apps are donating money to shelters for walking a certain amount of steps, and shelters are seeing a big rise in adoptions.
Volunteer Dog Walkers Catch Pokemon
Pokemon-savvy animal shelters are putting out calls for volunteers to take adoptable dogs on walks while they play Pokemon Go. Shelters have even set incense traps to attract Pokemon and issued maps of local Pokestops and Gyms to bring players and dogs together.

Walk for Charity Apps
Apps like Charity Miles and Wooftrax will make donations to the non-profit of your choice when you walk dogs. A volunteer dog walker can run one of these apps in the background while walking and playing Pokemon Go to double up the value of every step they take!
Pokemon-Themed Adoption Events
Shelters are hosting Pokemon-themed adoption events to great success. Activities include catching a photo of the dog you want to adopt with a Pokemon in-game to waive adoption fees.
