About Susan

29 Years Experience Caring For Dogs
Your happy, cat-friendly dog will have a blast at their slumber party, playing in my large, fully shaded back yard with my two 55 & 75 pound dogs, or hanging out inside with my seven rescued cats, two dogs, and whichever other pups have joined the party! My dogs are ages 4 & 5, and their favorite time of day is play time! Your pup will join in the fun of Tag, Tug, Keep a Way, Chase, and other games that they make up, and will run and romp until a nice, soft bed at nap time is welcomed! There are always plenty of sticks and branches for your Assistant Branch Manager to chew on and use to play tug of war with a Branch Manager! We also play fetch using a ball launcher a couple of times a day. When it's hot, we limit outdoor time, and are careful not to let the dogs get overheated. We play a bit indoors, too - it's that kind of house. I don't worry about things being chewed on or scratched - it's not like it hasn't happened before. :) Your treasured dog will get lots of play time, lots of love & affection, his own food (so no tummy troubles!), and will have a wonderful time on his vacation while he's here.

While my pups usually prefer to be out a lot in nice weather, some days they like to be in a lot more - I leave it up to them. Yours would do the same, or stay inside or outside more if he or she preferred. I'm home almost all the time when dogs are on vacay, so your pups will get all the attention they want, inside or out, and they can be with the other dogs all the time, or spend time apart, as they wish. They'll also get TONS of attention from the seven resident dog-crazy cats who own the house and all of the dogs in it.

If you have a well-socialized pup who loves to run and play, or a happy couch potato who loves to chill, bring him or her here for a worry free, fun slumber party with some good-time party pups and kitties! The yard is completely fenced in with a 6' wood privacy fence, with the added security of a 4' cyclone fence behind that. My gate has a pawsitively secure lock, so your little escape artist will be safe here.

My dogs are kind and gentle when they're not playing enthusiastically, and they adore having new friends coming to play or relax with them. My home is special because I am almost always at home with the animals, and I absolutely love each of them. We all enjoy getting to know new dogs! Your dog will never be lonely here - in addition to my dogs, my seven very busy, aggressively dog-friendly cats will have LOTS of interaction with your pup, too!

Your dog MUST be cat-friendly (and have cat experience) in order for him or her to stay at my home. I take care of your dogs in my home to prevent them from having unhappy kennel experiences, so I'm sure you understand that the safety and happiness of my own pets is extremely important, too!

Whatever we're doing, there's lots of interaction, affection, training, limits, and love. Dogs like to work their minds as well as their bodies. It makes them happier.

You'll get text updates, pictures, calls, or emails (whichever you prefer) so you'll know your puppy is happy and having fun during his vacay. You're welcome to contact me as much as you'd like to hear about how your dog's visit is going, and how he or she is doing. I do my best to replicate the activities and schedule that your dog enjoys at home, so that he's as happy as is possible without you. I'm all about continuous improvement, and welcome your suggestions and comments to help improve the experience for your dog. That's the beauty of my only having three guest dogs at most; the experience is tailored to your dog's needs. This is a non-smoking, low-stress environment which caters to your dog's likes and dislikes. We look forward to meeting and taking great care of your dog!

All dogs on vacay must have current vaccinations, accurate ID tags, be free of fleas and other parasites, be cat-friendly with no known incidents of any sort of aggression toward cats, & be well-socialized with no history of aggression toward other dogs (okay if rehabilitated) so we can be sure everyone stays safe, and we all have a positive experience. If you are at all unsure of your dog's behavior toward other dogs or cats, please seek alternate arrangements for your pet. If you have any questions or concerns about my experience, animals at my home, or special considerations needed for your dog, please feel free to contact me. I'll be glad to talk to you before we even schedule a "meet and greet" to insure that this environment is the right one for your dog. Prior to your dog's stay, it is best if we can meet so that we are sure that this is the best situation for your dog, and so that he or she will feel more comfortable coming here for his or her first stay. I take great pains to ensure that every dog is happy while he's here, and I expect that you are the kind of pet owner who is responsible, caring, and wants the best for your dog, too.

I'm also experienced in dealing with different types of aggression, so if your dog has mild toy or food aggression, a stay here can be successful. I strive to be a good pack leader, following Cesar Millan's training to keep the pups balanced and happy. I also love well-socialized pit bulls, rotties, and other big dogs and do not discriminate against any breed.

Susan was there for my son when he was in a bind for dog care. She took amazing care of Bella! Highly recommend her if you are in the Memphis area
Susan was wonderful! Our little dog, Maggie Mae, had a great time at Susan's house with her dogs and cats. Susan also came to our house to care for two of our cats. Not only did the cats enjoy play time, Maggie got to come along for a visit! We got pictures and updates about our furiends often. Susan even brought in the mail. We will definitely be asking Susan to care for our furiends again!

Susan was amazing. She was super friendly and flexible with pick up/drop off times. We met prior to our dog vacation and she was extremely good with our baby
Very responsive! Also very flexible with the drop off and pickup schedule. She gave a nightly report with pictures of what my babies did each day. Would use again!
Tiger had a great time at Susan's! He got all the exercise he could handle by running around with Dexter and Wookie...which is saying a lot because Tiger is extremely energetic. And he enjoyed being with the cats and making lots of new friends! Susan's love of animals becomes apparent right away and I knew she would do a great job of looking after Tiger...and she did!

VERY pleased with Susan! She came to my work to meet Poca first which was really nice and saved me from leaving work. She picked up and dropped her off, sent photos during the trip that I just loved, and kept me updated with everything. I'm already planning to use her again later on this month. Thank you Susan!!

Susan is definitely an animal lover with 7 cats and 2 dogs. This was perfect for our dog Lola because she loves to be with other animals! She got along great with Susan and especially great with her two dogs. Susan sent me picture text updates throughout the weekend. It was a great experience!

Susan was an incredible host for my dog Daisy. She gave me consistent feedback via text message, including photo updates and helpful bits of info. I truly felt like my pup was in the most capable hands, and Daisy is quite a handful. Susan is a credit to this service and I would recommend her with complete confidence. She was flexible and communicative. She went above and beyond for my dog and I'm positive she would do the same for yours. If i go out of town again, I would absolutely trust Susan with my dog. Thanks again!

Susan is so kind and was so communicative with us about Lexie. Lexie is shy and reticent in new situations and wasn't eating at first but Susan solved the problem with love and care. She even took the time to post pictures of Lexie throughout the week playing with her dogs. We got the dogs together a few days before the visit to get them acquainted so the transition would be better. We thank you, Susan!

Our oldest dog was diagnosed with new health problems a few days before we took him to stay with Susan. She did a good job managing his issues, giving him his meds and updating us on him. He was probably a handful. We arrived back in town later than expected & appreciated her understanding. She sent him home with a small bag of her dog's food (that he apparently preferred over his own). She also texted me a few days later to ask how he was doing. We don't think we'll have him with us for much longer and probably won't be leaving him again, but was glad he was well taken care of.

Susan is a big dog lover!

My 12 yrs. old Yellow Lab had a rejuvenating experience in the company of her two dogs.
Susan and the dogs spent a lot of time in her back yard having play time chasing balls. She sent pictures of my Lab almost everyday together with comments about what he is doing.

What I liked the most was the fact that my dog could move freely and he slept on the floor of Susan's bedroom with the other two dogs.

A big advantage was the fact the all three dogs were almost the same size and had similar disposition. I am not sure a small, lap dog will have an identical experience.

One thing to mention is that there are several cats around that could be a stressful factor for dogs not used to them... Susan said that my dog learned to ignore them pretty soon.

I can’t say enough good things about Susan as the caregiver for my dog Sassi. Susan welcomed Sassi with much TLC, and her two dogs became Sassi’s great friends and playmates. Susan is home most of the time and gives the dogs a lot of attention. She is mindful of their health and makes sure they enjoy a variety of activities, as well as calming rest times. Sassi seemed happy and contented when I picked her up after her first visit. She “told” me she wants to go back. And she will! I am very grateful to Susan and Dog VaCay for the exceptional service and care. It is a big relief and great joy to know that now I can leave Sassi with such a fun -- and loving -- family! Thanks so much!
