I rescued my first dog Angus from the Humane Society in 2011 when he was 6 months old. Being my first and only dog for 4 years, he has definitely been spoiled. About 6 months ago my boyfriend and I took in Sophie. A friend of a friend could no longer care for Sophie, so we added the 5 year old to our family. I love and care for my dogs like they are my children. Angus is a 40 pound terrier mix who loves to play with anyone and anything. Sophie is a 20 pound jack russell terrier who is a bit more reserved, but warms up to new dogs and people fairly quickly. Cuddling and play time are a frequent occurrence in our house. I have also dog sat for numerous friends with dogs of various breed and size for various lengths of time. Some of the dogs I have cared for include basset hounds, weimaraner, shit zu, dachsund, and chihuahua.
My boyfriend and I do both work full-time jobs but the times are spread out enough that the dogs aren't home alone for more than 6 hours. Usually the dogs are let out first thing in the morning when we wake up, again before I leave for work around 9 am, when my boyfriend gets home around 3 pm, and then right before bedtime. During the day, the dogs are free to roam the house, unless requested otherwise. Typically, I walk my dogs for 60 minutes once a day, but I can increase the time and/or frequency of walks if needed.
Our house is a single-family, two story house with a medium sized fenced in play area outside. Our house is located on a pretty busy intersection, but the dogs only go in and out the back door and are always leashed and supervised when outside. Both Angus and Sophie are potty trained but it's not uncommon for Sophie to still have accidents, so puppies who aren't completely potty trained are welcomed.
