If you're looking for the family dog experience, you've come to the right place!
I've always loved animals, ever since I was a child, and while I didn't get my own dog until I was grown up, I have had other animals growing up like chickens and rabbits and birds, and have always been around people with dogs. I've had my own dogs, one for 4 years and the other for 6 months so far. Both are rescues, so I understand the trials and tribulations of rescuing a dog, but of course I also understand the joy of seeing a dog happy!
Throughout having my own dogs, friends I have made through dog walking have asked me to look after their dogs and have always been happy with them staying with me, so I have looked after many different breeds with varying temperaments! All have ultimately been a delight to have! All dogs who stay with me will be treated as my own!
Since I don't work, my own dogs get 3/4 walks a day, depending on how hot/cold it is. These walks vary from 30 minutes - hour round one of the local parks to 3/4 hour hikes round trails in reservations. Purely depends on how hot it is during the day. I would never over exercise a dog, especially in this heat. That being said, if we do go out in the heat, I always carry water with me, or at least walk somewhere I know has a natural water resource. We will walk rain or shine! A tired dog is a happy dog after all :) If your dog likes to go to the dog park, there are a few I like to go to sometimes, like Brookdale, South Mountain, and there is a fantastic one in Wantage that is 8 acres of fenced field! But I will only take them after explicit permission from the owner. Whatever is the preference, rest assured your dog will be well exercised!
Inbetween walks, dogs have full access to the *mostly* fenced yard, there is 1 section that has a very low fence which, while it is blocked up by chairs, I am addressing this weekend to put something more secure in place! However no dog would ever be left unattended in the yard, so no chance to escape anyway. It is a pretty big, grassy yard with lots of toys in it. If it's raining, we might play some games indoors instead, like find the treat or chase! We're a pretty active household either way!
Pooches will have full roam of the house, no room/piece of furniture is off limits, your dog will certainly be treated as part of our family! We have wooden/tile floors throughout, lots of toys, lot of chairs/leather sofa for lazing and plenty of treats! Whether you have a velcro dog or one that is aloof, they will get the best care. Lots of cuddles, exercise and treats (owner approved prior, of course!). My puppy likes to be the host, she welcomes dogs with open paws and will have a good chase/wrestle, if your dog likes that, or will respect their space and leave them alone if they want that instead. My older dog is more the grumpy old man (even though he's 6), he will ref the wrestles/chases and chill out with me.
I have a good understanding of dogs who suffer from separation anxiety. My own dog suffers from it when he's away from me. This is something that can be discussed as I understand it can be so hard to place your dog with the right person while you're away!
I am very flexible, and I am very honest. I insist on a meet and greet prior to ensure your dog is a good fit for all and that I am a good fit for you! I will not tolerate any dog aggression, food/water aggression or toy aggression. Equally your dog needs to be house trained (though I can forgive accidents as they do happen!) and, I'm sorry but no un-neutered pets. Your dog would very rarely be left unattended, I may sometimes need to nip to the store or something but that's mostly it!
Please note, if your dog has trouble with stairs, be aware we have a few steps up to our house and a few steps (quite steep) down to the garden.
Please feel free to message me with ANY questions at all. I am open to suggestions and will adjust to meet your requirements and your dog's needs.
