My husband and I are dog sitters, and we made some of these “noisemaker” toys—out of kibble and empty plastic water bottles—for some puppy guests.
Unsurprisingly, they were a huge hit! The Water Bottle Crunch is the last in a series of three toy projects; check out the first installment here and the second installment here.
The Water Bottle Crunch Homemade Dog Toy
Dogs who go crazy for noise will especially love this toy—the combination of a plastic vessel filled with kibble is unbeatable.
What You Need
- Empty water bottle
- Scissors
- Dry kibble
- Old sock
Directions
- Remove bottle cap and cut off the ring that sits just below the cap.
- Put some dry kibble inside the bottle and put the cap back on.
- Stuff the bottle inside an old sock.
- Tie a knot close to the top of the bottle. Done.
You can leave it like this or snip fringes at the end with your scissors to make it a little more fancy. I also made a candy-inspired version, tying off both ends. Have fun with it!
NOTE: It’s a good idea to be proactive about switching out the bottle if it gets too destroyed, as you’d replace any dog toy that gets too destroyed.
Puppy teeth can be pretty sharp and once they start chomping on plastic, sharp edges can form. Also if your dog can get past the sock to the actual bottle, he might go after the cap—if he does, take it away for safety precautions.
